Thinking back now about Bement, what I loved most is the small town living and the trust and security that comes with that. Everybody knows everybody. My kids are growing up so different. My oldest is a freshman this year and she has more students in her freshman class than the entire Village of Bement.
I think I have too many 80’s songs to list. I loved anything Prince. Anything Poison (or was that more 90’s?) Anything from Night Ranger, like Sister Christian. David, Denise, Kenny and I even drove to Springfield to see them. Which leads to the next question of a memory…. We drove to Springfield in David’s Impala to see Night Ranger and I had to drive us home because David and Kenny and Denise all fell asleep or passed out or something. I just remember the car didn’t have a gas peddle.
Another great memory was of Denise and I staying all night at her house after we’d been to a party and we were laughing so hard we couldn’t make it up the stairs. We had the munchies so we raided the kitchen and found stale corn chips and tried to eat them but we were laughing so hard we just laid there on the stairs and couldn’t move.
Or how about Denise, David, I think maybe Eric, and I running from Harold (the cop) through the park because he caught us sitting in the park drinking. David wipes out and I stop to help him, I wipe out and he just runs right past me to get away. Thanks, David!!
I have more but this is my last one…..Jacki and I getting stopped by the cops 3 times in one night. I think it was once in the country, once in Bement and once on the square in Monticello.
Ohhhh – we have to correct Denise, I busted my head open before school one day not my collar bone. The broken collar bone was from the huge water fight we all had in the park.
About myself now……I live in Roselle which is in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. I’ve been there for 10 years now but have lived in the Chicago area for 20. For the past 5 years I’ve been a Project Manager for Sprint/Nextel. I have 3 beautiful kids, Rachel 15, Regan 11, and Dane 10. I’ve been with my boyfriend Paul for 3 years. He has 4 kids….yep, so together we have 7!!!
Are my kids like me…..wow, well Rachel is always on high honors so nope, that’s not like me. She is very social and talks A LOT – oh yeah, that’s me. Regan is a bit quieter but she is a band geek like me. She even plays the flute. Dane is all boy, he loves AC/DC and Metallica and skateboarding. Dane has a huge heart – I’d like to say that’s like me.
I laugh when I think back about the way we dressed and how I looked. My kids and Paul love to make fun of the way I looked back then……but hey, everybody had huge glasses and feathered hair right??
